Perdue wants to change state government
News broke today that Gov. Sonny Perdue (DR?) would like for some state constitutional officers to be appointed:
Gov. Sonny Perdue is proposing that four state constitutional officers now elected by the public should instead be appointed by the governor. The constitutional amendment is in the works already for this. This is one those proposals that you'd have to read the details before going along with it. You also have wonder why he is waiting to do this in his last year in office. Seems odd.The four are state school superintendent, agriculture commissioner, labor commissioner and insurance commissioner.
The change would require two-thirds approval in each house of the Legislature, and would have to be ratified by the state's voters.
The governor elected in 2014 would be the first to appoint people to the four positions. Appointments would require confirmation by the Senate.
If they're going to change up state government, let's pass HR 563, which would allow a governor to serve only one 6 year term.

I will be voting for Austin Scott for Governor he is by my standards honest, trustworthy and most importantly wants Georgians to get back to work, he will demand Government transparency, which we have been yearning for.
I think Governor Perdue would be proud of my choice. Austin Scott holds the same standards that I voted for in Mr.Perdue.
I agree most completely with Governor Perdue regarding the position of Governorship having the power to appoint positions to Insurance,School, tax assessor and Labor board's I also adamately believe most importantly that County commissioner Board's should be appointed by the Governor of Georgia and not by votes within the counties.
The county commission board is where the trouble starts, there are to many related people that have to many family ties and supporters through decades of generations within Henry County. How could this not perpetuate special considerations to certain individuals and companies that desire considerations. I know this practice occurs in Henry County, why would any other county be different?
The political game needs to cease. Commissioners in Henry County have been running their own agendas.
Citizens in Henry County are sick of it. They will be voting in 2010 and 2012 until the county is kulled of the good ole boy and one girl back door politics that the citizens of this county have indured for far to long.
Citizens in Henry County are finally taking a stand on it! it is time for change in their county. The current BOC has just pushed the last citizen to the breaking point.
I will be writing Mr. Perdue and ask him to add County commissioners to his list of county officials that should be appointed by the Governor of Georgia. I know that BJ. Mathis has been appointed by Mr. Perdue to head the committee for the 2010 census, however does he really know all there is to know about BJ? we shall see.

No he doesn't know all there is to know about her yet. BJ has her eyes set on something bigger than being Chairman of the Henry County Board of Commissioners. Her heart is focused down the road for a run at a state position. But you know she brings with her a lot of baggage from days of old even her school girl days. She has made friends with money folks now and what has she promised them in return? It could be anything. Ladder climbing is nothing new for a Henry County politician. But getting there the honest way for many of these climbers is out of the question. Most of them don't know how to run the jobs they have now and have had in the past. As with her she climbed over people years ago. She went into the ministry to again walk over others and then decided to go into politics to again walk over people to get what she wants. It's not for the people, it's for her. I saw a poster relating her to Chairman Mao. The colors fit well. BJ has gotten where she has by the influence of her step-dad and the quality of her late mother. Her mom was a well thought of lady here in our county and it is sad to see BJ stray away from her values. But that's what power, money, and politics will do to people. There are many out there in the political arena that mirror this image of a wantabe who finds favor in powerful people who don't want to be politicians but they want a hack to do the job. Unknowing to the hack who thinks that they mean the world to these people when they are only a tool to be used. It has happened all around the country, state and locally and it will likely continue as long as there are powerful people with money.

I don't have a dog in the Henry county hunt but I oppose giving up my right to vote for the state offices. Once we (voters) abdicate the right to choose then the person in power can rename the offices. Let see the Czar of education, The Czar of Ag…. In my county the School board won the right to appoint the superintendent and all we have gotten is another political hack who's main focus is generating revenue not improving education. Voters keep your right to choose.

If it allows for the early removal of someone who is failing at their appointed position (Oxendine and Cox come to mind), I'm all for it.

I think the most important thing to remember about Mr. Perdue's proposal on this is: Each state will get to vote for the individuals that the sitting Governor supports for these key positions.
It is not as if each state will not get to vote or have an opinion regarding who is chosen.
I also think that it will aide in alleviating the historical good ole boy and girl politically/monetarily backed indiviuals seeking these key position's within government. Political favor for a favor, if you prefer that term. We all know this is a regular practice within Henry County.
Mr. Perdue is also quite aware that officials that currently oversee municipalities need to be held accountable through a seperate judical board and these officials need to be held accountable to the people who elected them to their positions. This is hugely evident to all in Washington. If there are those that are against transparency in all levels of Government, then those are the people that should and need to be looked at very closely. We have to start somewhere,at least Mr. Perdue is opening up the dialogue. I say Good for you Mr. Perdue, GO GET'EM!
