Those who actually lived under communism lived a life that we would not want. Communism affected us here in America during the time that I grew up. We had to watch for Reds under our beds that was a slogan from the time. We lived in a world of fear while I was growing up. Not knowing when they would use the bomb. We were always told to fear those Russians and Chinese because they were bad people. As you grew older you began to understand that it was their government and not the people. We began to feel sorry for those who lived under communism and did all we could to bring them out from behind the walls. The Soviet people lived in a world of propaganda and we realized that we lived in the same type of world. The Soviet people were made to be afraid of us just as we were of them. I wonder how much of that still exists today. Many of the old leaders of the Soviet regime are still in power just as we have many people today still in power in Washington who were there during the times I refer to. Many people today only believe what their government tells them and that is the legacy of the communist world. The Berlin Wall may be gone today but it is the walls you don't see that harbor the veil of communism.
