Last night's results
Here is a look at the races with national implications from last night:
- Chris Christie (R) knocked off incumbent Governor Jon Corzine (D) in New Jersey by 5%. The race wasn't nearly as close as predicted. Christie got help from independent voters, according to exit polls.
- Doug Hoffman (C) came up short against Bill Owens (D) in NY-23, despite polling that show him ahead in the final days. I was pulling for Hoffman, but he wasn't that great of a candidate, though Scozzafava would have been a disaster. Roger Simons believes it was Hoffman's social conservatism that hurt him.
- Bob McDonnell (R) destroyed Creigh Deeds (D) in Virginia. Republican swept all constitutional offices and picked up seats in the state legislature.
All around a good night for Republicans, though I'm not sure that they should say it was a clear referendum on President Barack Obama. It certainly showed that his "star power" has diminished after his visit to New Jersey didn't help Democrats.
Feel free to discuss returns from your neck of the woods.

I want to thank you for letting me be a part of the live blog. It was nice. As you know we have a new mayor in Stockbridge in Lee Stuart. McDonough will be keeping Billy Copeland as mayor. More people got out and voted this time in the local municipal elections than the last time.

The turnout in Georgia was pretty upsetting. Especially in Atlanta where there are so many problems, only 35% voted?
Hopefully sites like this one can inform more people about their elections - it is too easy to miss local and municipal votes.
