Georgia ranks in top 10 in transportation and education spending
We often hear from various interest groups that Georgia needs more funding for education, transportation and medical services. I've always contended that Georgia does not a money problem, we have a spending problem and we an even worse problem with prioritizing our needs, especially with transportation.
The Tax Foundation has put out a study based on numbers from Census data that would surprise many Georgians, that is if the media would report it.
According to the data, Georgia spends:
- 26.8% of revenues on K-12 education
- 11.5% of revenues on transportation
- 10.6% of revenues on health and hospitals
A transportation sales tax will be pushed next year, and it's very likely that it will be a campaign issue in the Democratic and Republican primaries. Education spending is always bantered about, despite no proof that more money means better results.
This is just something to think about as we progress into what is going to be a very business legislative session and election year.

It appears that the state already has a large amount of money going into the education, transportation, and healthcare areas but with what results. We often hear that we don't have the funds to fix this road or to help with this school system. They even cut money coming to Henry County. We even hear where they don't have enough to go for healthcare but it does sound like a large portion is going in that direction. I wonder how much of this money is being held back by the state and will want more next year. This coming year will definitely be a interesting year.
