Georgia takes position on non-existant problem

Gov. Sonny Perdue signs a bill to tackle a problem that doesn't exist:

Gov. Sonny Perdue has signed a bill that outlaws sanctuary cities -- where officials are prohibited from reporting illegal immigrants.

Supporters of the new law say that while there are no sanctuary cities in Georgia, there are some 60 across the country. They say the law is a pre-emptive strike to make sure none crop up in the state.

It would withhold state funding from any local government that adopts a sanctuary policy.

Critics have called the measure a solution for a problem that doesn't exist and said it sends an increasingly hostile message to the international community.

There are no sanctuary cities and Georgia and there are no cities that have indicated that they would be a refuge (for lack of a better word) for illegal immigrants.

This a phantom solution looking for a problem.

On this point, Jason, I will take an opposing view. The pre-emptive strike by the legislature precludes the scenarios scene elsewhere across the country.

While Chairman Maobama's Justice Department is officially looking the other way and the FBI cannot even maintain a terror suspect watchlist, the sensibilities of Americans should be addressed at the state level.

While cities, school boards and everyone else has a hand out begging to be stimulated the decision to "withhold state funding" will get the attention of social engineers at all levels.

I, for one, believe it is apropriate to send an increasingly hostile message that reinforces US and state sovereignty and the requirement for secure borders.
