Property rights are dead in Mississippi
The Mississippi legislature failed to override Gov. Haley Barbour's veto of meaningful eminent domain legislation:
Lawmakers in the Mississippi Senate voted today to uphold Gov. Haley Barbour’s veto of a bill strengthening Mississippians' property rights.H/T: Castle CoalitionTwenty-two senators sided with the governor, enough to sustain his veto of House Bill 803. Twenty-eight senators voted to override the veto.
It reversed the Senate's position earlier this session, when no lawmaker voted against the legislation. The bill restricts the use of eminent domain to direct public use, with a few exceptions. The government uses the procedure to take private property for certain projects.
Barbour, a Republican, has said the bill would hurt the state’s attempts to attract major economic development projects that provide jobs. He spent time this week lobbying senators after House lawmakers voted overwhelmingly to override his veto.
[...]
But Sen. Johnny Walls, D-Greenville, said he changed his initial support of the bill after speaking with the governor."My constituents need jobs. They need Nissan," he said.

Greed, money, and let's take it from the citizens is the motto here. Senator Walls wants Nissan more than he wants to protect someone's rights to his or her land. Using eminent domain to take property for a business venture is not what it was to be used for in the beginning. But greedy lawmakers have found a way to take someone's land so they can build strip malls, burger huts, and the list goes on and on. And then comes along the giant Nissan. Some farmer doesn't want to give up his family farm and the plant wants his land to build upon. Instead of looking around the farmer they just tell him you will receive this amount for your land and hit the road. This is not right. Governor Barbour is looking to pad his pockets from the lobbyist waiting in the wings on this one. All this sounds familiar here at home. Try to take a viable business and turn the property into a shopping zone for someone else. And of course don't forget getting Nash Farm for a park from a developer who was seeing as many dollar signs as the people who acquired it. The people of this nation are gradually and surely losing our rights as the days pass. Socialism comes in many guises and many faces. Look carefully as to which face it is wearing here at home. You might be surprised.

Property rights? Why you almost sound as if you believe we still have property rights in America,or any other rights for that matter.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you have no rights other that those granted by the ..... what was that document?.... oh well I know it was something special but starting with the Kennedy administration and most every one after that one they put that in some unused desk drawer .... Oh wait it was called the Constitution .... anyhow they don't use that anymore ... they use this thing called Presidential Order or edict or something that sounds offical and threating.
You know kinda like Queen B and her court here in Henry County...
About the only right we have left is to turn right on red and that ain't always true either.
I know we will probably see each other before you read this but just wait till Queen B gets that fiber optic system in ... Man that will speed up things well it won't speed up the gridlocked traffic but it will enable us to complain much faster about the empty houses, vacent strip malls, unneeded soccer fields, new Queen B vanity, higher than the rest of the states county's salary for BoC members, tax rates based on a 200K house that is only worth 100K,BoE members tha t try to fly under the radar, fair and balanced news outlets,SBC, that only report the Chamber of Commerce side of an issue,County owned golf courses, Bark Parks, Battlefields where the only battle ever documented was when Betty slapped Herman for leaving his overcoat on the kitchen table, three hunderd bizillion square feet of warehouse space where they have 22 tires,4 cases of Mars Bars candy,16 books about Amazon.com,two pallets of coffee, and 6257 pages of minutes of secret meetings the BoC has held. Of course 6256 of them have been erased... At first I thought ants had died all over the floor but it was those little bits of pencil eraser where Queen Bs little workers had done all the erasing.
Just think without all this progress we would still be living in the 50s.
Boy howdy can you imagine leaving your door unlocked, having to remember to bring milk home cause it was twelve miles to the nearest grocery... forget 7/11 and Quick trip... I mean a real A&P Winn-Dixie Piggly Wiggly Big Apple I'm talking about real stores..
And we could only shop onceta week cause that was when we all went to town...
Onceta is perfectly good english...southern but perfectly good.. Yep just think if all these good northern folk had not of educated us we wouldn't be much more advanced from sitting on the front porch ever evening sipping a mint julip and wondering ifin it was gona rain on the cotton/corn crop...
Yep theys really done usun a favor or at least they said they did.
Well I gotta go now and slop the hogs.... well in modern language that means I'm going down to the tax office and pay my property tax.

Your right Don my friend, we have lost our rights to a society that knows not where to seek them. They have forgotten how to care for those rights that were given long ago. I guess I have always held out hope. But hope is just a fleeting glance at where we are today. The priorities of our people are not where they were at one time. I walk a narrow path in life that is filled with pain and wonder why? Well that answer will come soon enough.
