Winter weather in Georgia
North Georgia is seeing snow flurries today:
Snow flurries were reported as far south as Marietta before daybreak Monday, and while no accumulation was expected in metro Atlanta, the National Weather Service said 1 to 2 inches could dust some mountain counties.Wish we could get something on the Southside. Too bad this isn't going to last long as temperatures will be going up during the week.At least two school systems — Fannin and Rabun counties — canceled Monday classes.
The Weather Service posted a winter weather advisory from 7 a.m. Monday until 1 a.m. Tuesday for Fannin, Rabun, Murray, Gilmer, Union, Towns, Pickens, Dawson, Lumpkin and White counties. As much as 2 inches of snow could accumulate in areas above 2,500 feet, forecasters said.
Just before daybreak, the Weather Service nudged the rain/snow mix line a little southward to include areas from I-85 northwestward as flurries were reported in Marietta and Gainesville.
Speaking of winter weather, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is in Atlanta campaigning for Sen. Saxby Chambliss. I'm sure she is laughing at us because two school systems closed down because of the threat of winter weather.
