New York's crazy tax proposal
If Massachusetts is Taxachusetts, then what is New York?:
Gov. Paterson's proposed $121 billion budget hits New Yorkers in their iPods - and nickels-and-dimes them in lots of other places, too.You can read some details of the tax plan here. This is by far the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.Trying to close a $15.4 billion budget gap, Paterson called for 88 new fees and a host of other taxes, including an "iPod tax" that taxes the sale of downloaded music and other "digitally delivered entertainment services."
[...]
The proposal, which needs legislative approval, did not include broad-based income tax increases, but relied on smaller ones to raise $4.1 billion from cash-strapped New Yorkers.Movie tickets, taxi rides, soda, beer, wine, cigars and massages would be taxed under Paterson's proposal. It also extends sales taxes to cable and satellite TV services and removes the tax exemption for clothes costing less than $110.

A Zune tax I can support.
But an iPod tax?
I dunno. Maybe if the money is goes into a trust that pays for Medicaid-funded hearing aids in circa 2030. I'm certainly going to need one.
Thanks, Steve Jobs.

Does this mean that New Yorkers will shuttle off to New Jersey to download?

I guess this means Henry County,Atlanta and Georiga State Governments no longer have the market cornered on" stupidity economics"? Just think we missed being number one by "Just this much" as Maxwell Smart would say. OOPS almost forgot Stockbridge....but then I think even the aforementioned governments would like to forget Stockbridge as they take stupidity to a whole different level.
