Pawlenty on the future of the GOP

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty was on Fox News Sunday to talk about the GOP and what it needs to do in the wake of another devastating election:

“We have to be a conservative party, and we should be. But we have to apply those principles in the context of a changing country,” Pawlenty said on “Fox News Sunday”. “And we have to learn to do a better job of applying our conservative principles to this new marketplace.”

Pawlenty, who was mentioned as a potential running mate choice for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) this summer and who is considered a potential 2012 presidential candidate, said Republicans must more aggressively court “Sam’s Club” voters, voters who are hamstrung by their budgets.

Interesting comments from someone who once said, "The era of small government is over" and that "government has to be more proactive, more aggressive."

The future of the Republican Party is bleak If Tim Pawlenty, Mike Huckabee and others like them will be setting the tone of what it believes.

The Republicans are a party of big government, always have been.

If conservatives want to have a voice in the party, they will have to shed their militarism and imperialism.

If conservatives want to have a voice in the party, they will have to shed their militarism and imperialism.

This statement confuses me. What do you mean by "militarism and imperialism"? Also, are you saying that "conservatives" used to hold non-interventionist views?

Did I see Boortz in the newspaper holding up a picture of Mike Huckabee?

If so, I think Boortz is past his prime. Mike Huckabee? Please. Time to hop in that camper and drive in to the sunset.
