GA-8: Marshall ahead

Survey USA polled Georgia's 8th Congressional District for Roll Call. Sen. John McCain has a solid lead in the presidential race. The race is close, but Rick Goddard hasn't been able to catch on is what is, on paper, a Republican district.

President: (8th District Only)
McCain - 56%
Obam - 40%
Other - 2%
Undecided - 2%

GA-8:
Marshall (D) - 49%
Goddard (R) - 45%
Undecided - 6%

The poll has a margin of error of +/- 3.9% and is based on registered voters. Survey USA notes, "Democrat Jim Marshall edges Republican challenger Rick Goddard if black voters turn out as expected."

It looks like statistically speaking, the 8th district race is a dead heat. I lived in the 8th for a long time, and I am pretty familiar with Jim Marshall. He is a very conservative Democrat, and a familiar face in the 8th, having been mayor of Macon and a professor at Mercer. The people there trust him, and he has pretty much voted in line with the district's fundamental beliefs.
