Henry BoC Runoff Tomorrow
With an expected light voter turnout the runoff election will end tomorrow.
BJ Mathis has maintained a "From My Heart to Yours" series of mailers addressed to women of the county. Her glossy mailers portray the family values candidate.
Auletta has provided mailers that highlight his qualifications as a businessman, CPA and fiscal conservative. One mailer pointedly listed his experience and planning, while showing "None" beside Mathis's name.
Yesterday and today I received mailers from Auletta. One documented Mathis's vote against $5 million in state DOT funds for the East Lake Extension. The other shows Mathis's waste of $8 million on Nash Farm, the use of eminent domain and loss of all future property taxes on that "bogus battlefield."
Facts and qualifications may not produce the winner we expect. A runoff election at the end of summer hangs on two factors: the number of voters who will return to the polls and the effectiveness of each candidate to drive their supporters to vote.
Tomorrow the path will be set and Henry County will have a new chairman.
Comments
I sincerely hope that those who can vote will do so tomorrow. It doesn't matter who you support, it is the fact that we voted. And I sincerely wish each candidate good luck in the election. And to whomever wins "may you work for the best interest of the people of Henry County who deserve no less."

The vote tomorrow also hinges on whether people really want a change in Henry.

Actually Larry, the 8 million dollar one was not done by the Auletta Campaign but paid for by an inspired citizen.

You are correct. Mr. Harkin even signed it.
I am surprised that the vote against accepting DOT funds got so little coverage. We could have lost the entire project because Mathis & Holder did not want to follow DOT's rule to accept the low bid.
I must say Auletta would not have acted so foolishly.
Based on this record, Mathis shows emotion over good sense.

Henry County,
Remember to Vote! This includes my sis.

I just got back from the polls. There were twice as many voters and half as many poll workers as there were a few weeks ago. You probably want to get there before the afternoon rush.
Unless you're voting for Mathis...you guys should wait until tomorrow to vote.

I think BJ has done a superb job considering that the good old boys hate her and do everything in their power to discredit her. As Granny used to say, "Compared to what?". Compared to her predecessors and compared to her opponent, she is head and shoulders above the crowd. At least, there is a transparent or visible trail of all of her actions...not in the shadows and off records like so many before her. Like her or not, she's real and she's compassionate, and she does everything on the record! Thank God for sunshine!!! I pray she wins today. Tina Coria

She's done a superb job of trampling the Bill of Rights and throwing away millions of dollars of taxpayer money. That makes her the absolute bottom of the barrel in my book.

Tina
Sherman left a transparent and visible trail coming thru Georgia, and according to accurate historians, not the ones who documented Bnash Farms, he did a surpurb job at destroying almost everything in sight espically the economy again much like BJ....all I can figure is you must work for or have been offered a job by her.
If you are a taxpayer in HC you surely can't think BJ has the best interest of the majority of Henry County citizens in mind.

Don,
Tina is a taxpayer, but doesn't have the best interest of the tax payer in mind:

Hey Don and Harry, YES, I have been in Henry County for 20+ years. I am originally from Hahira and I am also a military brat. My husband and I have been married for nearly 30 years and have 4 wonderful children that all work, volunteer or go to school in Henry County. I care for this county more than words can ever express. While I'm still young at heart, I will die in this county one day (I pray). And, I am very proud of the people I have supported for elections. Sadly, the website you attributed left out many other campaign contributions I have made...I mean many. I am a Christian and I vote and support according to my conscience. WWJD is what I tell my children. As for Sherman, I guess you thought Abe was wrong and slavery should have continued. I usually don't respond to comments, and this will be my last; but, please do not judge me, just disagree with me on facts not attitudes. Good Luck and God Bless you and your families. We are all citizens of this great country and more importantly this great county!! HOOHAH!! Support your troops and support your kids!! Tina Coria

Funny I didn't read anywhere in Don's post that he thought slavery should continue. I do think he commented on the the accuracy of the civil war history as opposed to the fairy tales that BJ made up to justify using emminent domain and spending $8 mill on Nash (CASH) Park. Improved roads are what I would have liked to see my tax money going on. She had her chance and I PRAY she goes away!

I voted for Fred today simply because, as a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, I thought it was absolutely inappropriate that she took advantage of the 4th of July celebration at Nash Farm and turned it into a campaign stop. That celebration, BTW which was on county grounds, with county firefighters on duty, and advertised on the county website, was suppose to be a celebration about our forebears who fought against unbelievable odds for our Independence. Not a, basically, county paid for fund raiser. Oh, and if that's not enough, I commute to Atlanta everyday and see first the need for I75 expansion, and not a "Jodeco Bridge to Nowhere". BJ... Get over yourself already and listen to me, and others in your district, for a change. God help us if she wins today.

There will be a new chairman in Henry County this evening. Hopefully that person will move our county into a position where things will be better for us the taxpayers. No matter who wins life must go on here. Our county must find a way to fix our problems which are many. Remember "bring forth good government and people will stand and help." Let us find a way to help those in need. Find a way to fix our traffic problems. Seek solutions that make sense both financially and morally for the people. I still do not like low voter turn outs. Our population here shouldn't let the few decide our future. Maybe by the time the next election rolls around things will be better. One can only hope.

There are few people in Henry County or elsewhere who have earned my respect in greater portion than Tina Coria. Not only has she been a true friend, but a mentor and teacher. As for her concern for good government, taxpayer rights, choices of candidates I can only say that disagreement is tolerable.
What is not tolerable is the make any sort of personal judgement concerning jobs, cronyism or patronage. To do so proves an inadequate knowledge of the lady.
On this topic - BJ Mathis's suitability as the taxpayer's friend - I must disagree.
I pray God continues to bless this nation as one where we can disagree, yet maintain respect for the differences.

Larry
you have the advantage of knowing Mrs. Coria thus you have a more clear picture of her total political view. I on the other hand do not know nor have to my knowledge ever met her thus I can only base my opinion of her politics on what I have knowledge of and that is her written endorsement of BJ .
My judgement of Mrs. Coria is based totally on her political preference of BJ and I stand by my opinion that anyone who supported BJ has or have had something to gain.
As for my thinking slavery should have been continued, where did that come from? I stated a historical fact and Tina suddenly believes based on that fact that I would have preferred a different outcome.
My reference to her working for or being offered a position was based on the fact that BJ has been known to reward those who have been of benefit to her.
And just as an added note I doubt that few in HC support our troops any more that I and my family do. You know the military history of my family. One bronze star recipient and one member of the "Old Guard" I think I support my kids as well as any.
