I just got back from the Newton Co. Admn. Building and have a few interesting results in Newton Co.:
Bill Watterson won the GOP nod for Sherriff somewhat unexpectedly over Stacey Cotton by 8 points.
In one of the nastiest races in Newton Co. for some time, Kathy Morgan defeated Hubert White for the Democratic nomination for Newton BOC Chair by about 12 points. Hubert White, according to the local press, had given upwards of $73,000 to Republican causes over the last few years and had also allegedly given over the legal amount to the McCain campaign. Mr. White had sent out an 11th hour flyer claiming that he had "always supported and run as a Democrat".
In other races, Nancy Shulz won the runoff on the Dem side for BOC Dist. 3.
In the senate race, Jim Martin won the county by about 4 points.
