DNC Open Thread - Final Day

Barack Obama is set to give his acceptance speech at 10pm EDT. You can read it here. I haven't a chance to go through it yet, it's about four pages long. I do think that the media blitz surrounding his speech is a little ridiculous.

Anyway, here are some links to video of some of the more notable speeches during the convention:
- Ted Kennedy
- Michelle Obama
- Hillary Clinton
- Mark Warner
- John Kerry
- Bill Clinton
- Joe Biden

I'll post video of Obama's speech when it's available.

[UPDATE] I wasn't impressed with what he said. He is a great public speaker, but I've heard this speech before. It may not have been as eloquent. This is no different from the speech Al Gore gave in 2000 or the speech that John Kerry gave in 2004.

The quote of the night goes to Dave Weigel: "Protecting our freedom and liberties from the prying eyes of government got less applause than that of the "ordinary American" bitching about a foreigner taking his job."

When Obama's speech wasn't boring, it was hilarious. It was also hilarious watching people in the crowd cry. Here are the funniest parts of the speech:

And I will restore our moral standing so that America is once more the last, best hope for all who are called to the cause of freedom, who long for lives of peace and who yearn for a better future.

I'm not sure our standing in the world needs to be restored, but to the extent that it does, the Democrats' protectionism won't help!

Unlike John McCain, I will stop giving tax breaks to corporations that ship our jobs overseas, and I will start giving them to companies that create good jobs right here in America.

So, the cause of outsourcing is that our corporate taxes are too low??? How about lowering ALL corporations' taxes and see how many companies stay in/come to the US?

And I’ll invest $150 billion over the next decade in affordable, renewable sources of energy — wind power and solar power and the next generation of biofuels; an investment that will lead to new industries and 5 million new jobs that pay well and can’t ever be outsourced.

Jobs that can NEVER be outsourced??? Yep, that will help our standing in the world. "Those dern ferners took our jobs!"

Tonight, more Americans are out of work and more are working harder for less. More of you have lost your homes and more are watching your home values plummet. More of you have cars you can’t afford to drive, credit card bills you can’t afford to pay and tuition that is beyond your reach.

These challenges are not all of government’s making.

We have economic problems that can be blamed on individuals' bad choices, the rest ARE all of the government's making because the government takes too much money from corporations. See here.
