Did Obama help Martin?
Was Vernon Jones the victim of Obama campaign?:
Individuals in Washington and Georgia who are closely involved with Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign worked behind the scenes to steer Georgia’s U.S. Senate runoff election to Jim Martin, InsiderAdvantage has learned. It was apparent from the beginning that the DSCC wanted Martin to win the nomination. The Democratic Party, both nationally and here in Georgia, and the Obama campaign deny the charges. I guess that is too be expected.According to extremely reliable sources, those individuals collaborated in the design of a mail piece sent late in the runoff period primarily to African-American voters, reminding them that Jones twice voted for President George W. Bush.
That, along with other efforts, helped steer the black vote away from Jones, who is black, to Martin, who is white.
Our information comes from several sources. We cannot identify one. The other is Rev. Kenneth Walker, who was a top strategist for Jones’ campaign.
Said Walker: “I know for a fact, as Vernon’s strategist, that there was a meeting in Sen. Harry Reid’s office with David Axelrod from Obama’s campaign, and there was an agreement Obama’s campaign would help Jim Martin with the direct mail linking Vernon and George Bush.”
[...]
Walker said he believes “the powers that be tried to drive a wedge between Vernon and Obama, and Jim Martin was the anointed choice of the Georgia Democratic Party. They put him in at the last minute and, for the runoff, they raised Jim over $300,000. So he was the anointed choice. There’s no way that Jim Martin should have received 35 percent of the African-American vote when Vernon was the top vote-getter (in the primary.) The Obama campaign was effective in their direct mail campaign against Vernon.”
Comments
Well, even if it was a collaboration between the two campaigns, it would only serve VJ right.
He is as big a joke in Democratic circles as Zell Miller is (and not quite as liked) and he was warned once by the Obama campaign to stop using his picture to try to fabricate some imagined connection between the two.
That and the Obama campaign would rather die than have to defend a Senate candidate who has a "questionable" past and would be eaten alive from the get go for his refusal to stand by party bylaws and advocate for and vote for the party nominee.
Vernon Jones is a tool and doesn't need to go away mad. He just needs to go away. Now.

Vernon Jones was the victim of Vernon Jones.
He ought to go write a book "Sure Way to Lose a Campaign." I bet it'd be a NYT Best Seller.

If Sarah and Trev would pay close attention to the details you would see that the only thing Jim Martin won was a popularity contest. He is a very likeable guy. He was hand picked by the National Democrats to run against Vernon Jones. Jim Martin received financial backing from them not because he's the best man for the job but, because he's PLIABLE. People only give money to people who they love or believe will act in their best interest. I think they picked Jim Martin because they can make him say and do whatever they want, not so with Jones. Have you ever wondered why Jones would run for statewide office if his past was so "shady". If I really had something to hide I would lay low for a minute and try to undo some of the damage and then try again. If you check Jim Martin's voting record and if you dig deep you will see that Jim Martin was ousted from DHR. You will find that some of his "endorsements" are phony. Including his "endorsement" by the AJC. Have you ever wondered how a NEWSPAPER that is supposed to be objective can ENDORSE a candidate for the US Senate? If that doesn't seem weird to ya'll then something is wrong. Well I questioned the AJC about this. I sent an email to them and I was told that the "AJC" DID NOT endorse Jim Martin. One of their columnists did. Naturally, I followed up with the question so why isn't anyone calling him out on this since his TV Ads and his website keep saying that the AJC endorse Jim. The response I got said that Jim Martin must have MISUNDERSTOOD the endorsement. Well, I continued probing and questioning the tv ads mentioning the ajc endorsement stopped. Chambliss will expose Jim Martin. he has the money to do it. Jim looks like a wonderful, likeable unassuming person. But I believe that he'll surprise his supporters when he shows his underhanded colors. Don't let the demure demeanor fool you people. Don't be too quick to support anyone. It took a while for me to decide to support Jones. Never underestimate the underestimated. Do not underestimate Jim Martin. time will tell the stuff that he's made of. Someone said you can tell the truth about someone NOT by what he does when he is being watched but by what he does when he is alone and free to choose. Doesn't it bother you that this man entered the race so late in the game? If he really wanted to be Senator wouldn't he have entered the race earlier? Let's ask more questions people...
