Henry Neighbor: BoC Chairman Candidates
The Henry Neighbor newspaper provided a special section for the six candidates for BoC Chairman. Follow the links below. There is a short biographical sketch for each, and the question, "Why I am the most qualified candidate?"
Fred Auletta
....Because of my passion for the people of Henry County and unique qualifications of a 40-year career as a leader and managerMichael Eddy
....As the candidate wanting to create a common-sense approach to county government, I come prepared with a vision for Henry County and the courage to lead.
Jim Joyner
....Twenty of those years I have been heavily involved in politics within the county, 10 of those years I have been a commissioner and chairman.
Elizabeth BJ Mathis
....On Jan. 1, 2009 I can step in and assume the duties of chairman without the learning curve all the other candidates would have.
Charles Mobley
....My background in managing millions of dollars for individuals and families, hours serving our community from the zoning board, water authority, education bond referendums, SPLOST committee and party leader give me a perspective other candidates cannot match.
Chuck Tanner
....The chairman's position requires someone with caring and understanding people skills, the ability to motivate and foremost the chairman must be a leader who does not shy away from unsolved problems. This is my strength.Read the candidate's full comments. Decide carefully. THEN GO VOTE!!!

Really Elizabeth, at the Henry Chamber Forum you said you would have to spend the first few weeks in the different departments getting up to speed or something to that tune.

I should add that this wasn't a direct quote, I don't have the time to look at the video, but I was in the crowd.

You would think Charles Mobley already ran the county. BJ Mathis did not do all he did even as a commissioner.

Harry, you got it close enough. She was pandering to the county employees. No doubt dangling the carrot, "I can get you a raise just like Sandy."
It was a statement used at all the forums.

I Like Mike. He and Tanner are the only ones who convinced me they care about people. All the look at me stuff does not man anything.
Mike Eddy is the smartest one of the bunch. He got my vote.

No secret that I believe in Mike Eddy. If he falls short on this election, I hope he will get started on a run for a district seat!
But I am not counting him out just yet. What about a runoff between him and Auletta?

Mr. Eddy is working very hard right now and he has impressed me greatly. Your right I wouldn't count him out yet.

Billy, like you I talk to folks everyday. From every 10 people, I get 10 opinions about how Tuesday will turn out.
Best wishes to you and the team.

I have watched every forum and have had the opportunity to speak with each candidate. I will say that Mike Eddy is the most knowledgable, people caring, fiscally responsible candidate in the race. I do like Fred Auletta as well, so I am hoping for at least an Eddy - Auletta runoff.

Am I the only one who thinks that "the principal" is going to have a very hard time managing both? I know that this is considered "part time," but ask anyone who has been a GOOD commissioner or is a GOOD commissioner and ask them if they worked part-time. Just curious.

BigFan - I think Mr. Eddy has already answered your question in another post. I do not believe that his time will be an issue.

The answer is near-Are they going to have to change the BOC meetings that they normally have on Monday mornings, I think it is once a month, to Monday nights? I know that they say it is part time, but it is not.
