Help!
What is this entry way called? The one at my house is old and is starting to rot, and I need to replace it, the only problem is, I don't know what these things are called so I can't find anybody who does them. I am specifically talking about the wood frame around the doorway. If you know what these are called, please let me know!

I suppose there is an architectural name for each component..... Pediment comes to mind for the top section and possibly pilasters for the sides (I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong), but why don't you just tell them the exterior door trim needs to be replaced?

Because I didn't know it was as simple as "exterior door trim." I was doing all kinds of searches for "entryways", etc. First time I have had to maintain a house myself.... :-)

Sometimes the simplest answer is the best one. Congrats on the house... and condolences from a long time homeowner... the adventure has just begun!

I believe they call this a fluted exterior door casing.
Sometimes they have to be made on site according to a friend. The header above the
door is basic with the side
trim. I suggest not to use a soft wood as the entry way is an area that can be damaged.
Good luck

I may be incorrect but I think what you are referring to is called a lintle in some circles. I am referring to the top portion only.

The lintle is the support member that spans the top of an opening. Generally it is hidden by the trim, but may be exposed and a part of the architecture, usually in stone or timber frame situations.

Josuha - CJ is right - when houses were built back in the 1900's these were called pediments - now you just call it fluted trim with a header - you can measure what is rotten go to Lowes or Home Depot - they carry this stuff in stock usually -
