I hope Americans are tired of self-pity. This "Reverend" Wright probably had a pretty hard life, but that's all the more reason not to glamorize victimhood. I believe race is a stupid, man-made concept. It's a way for people to demagogue and then gain power. At the root of all racism is self-pity: Our race has been wronged. The other race has stolen what is rightfully ours, what we are entitled to.
In America (at least), claiming victimhood is a good way to gain power and silence your opponents. This is why Obama and his supporters are being such whiney babies about Geraldine Ferraro's statements. This is why Ferraro, in those same statements, claimed that women are victims (i.e., if Obama was a woman of any race, he wouldn't be where he is).
If I were John McCain, I would just keep reminding people that I survived in a POW camp for five and a half years, so I don't have time for anyone who engages in self-pity. And then I would point to Hillary's and Obama's respective tax plans.
Watching this, I can only assume by 'black', Wright means a 'black state of mind' and not actual skin color.
This 'race' mindset makes piffle of one's dignity and blinds it's participant of a life of 'gold'. Through further analogy, this philosophy is simple to refute, "If the 'hurdles' in life are too hard, change 'tracks' or jump over them, either way keep running forward.
The bigger issue for me is that this flamboyant, race-based, rock and roll-style church is mixing politics and religion.
One does not need to be an alchemist to understand that in 2008, combining the symbolic metals of 'politics' and 'religion' will not yield 'campaign gold'.
Even with this 'revelation', I remain a member of the rhetorical "Yes, Hillary Will Win the Nomination Club" (a group who's numbers fare slightly better than those of the 'Flat Earth Society'), I am convinced she will be the Democrat nominee.
How can anyone be taken seriously if they adhere to such a divisive tone? For someone claiming to be a 'uniter', it is the "audacity of hope' to think that Barack Obama will be the President of the United States.
Senator Clinton should send this raving lunatic a check because this is worth more than any commercial she could produce. How can a rational human being be a member at a church where someone like this is allowed to speak?
Come on folks
This was a one time, never before, remark and attitude made in the heat of a spiritual epiphany moment. This man has always preached the inclusive "love of Jesus is always in my heart for all his creatures" and Obama nor his mama have ever heard this kind of racist attitudes in the twenty years they have been close friends and members of this congregation ...RIGHT. Why I bet this man loves us the way he "thinks" we love him. It is this very kind of hate and divisive speech that keeps us separate and distracted from that which is really going on.
If I had been under the same pastor for 20 years and I was, I would know how he felt about every situation in life. What made him angry, sad, glad,up,down, what he liked to eat, where he liked to eat,and who he liked or didn't like to eat with.
If Obama has failed to know this one man that is supposed to be his advisor and known him for twenty plus years how can I believe he knows how I or hundreds of millions of others feel and think. No thanks he doesn't know his closest friend how would he know our enemies ?
THE WAY I SEE IT

This whole thing just shows what a silly little man Barack Obama is. Newt Gingrich said something that is sad but true. That this kind of talk from a Leftist is nothing unusual. You can hear it from Leftist professors on college campuses and Leftist authors. Sadly, I think you can hear this kind of conspiracy, self-absorbed, self-pity if you just go out and talk to the average Joe in certain places. I absolutely HATE secret conspiracy theories. There are no secrets! Nothing stays a secret very long! Conspiracy theories are silly, but they can be harmful to some people. It is a self-absorbed, loser mindset. Conspiracy thoeries say that you are not in control of any aspect of your life. They say that no matter what you do, the secret powers that control the world are out to get you. It's very very sad. It disturbs me when I talk to people who believe in secret conspiracy theories. There's nothing you can do to change their respective minds.

And, also, if I were McCain, I would choose J.C. Watts as my running mate tommorrow.

Robbie,
I never thought I'd say this, but I couldn't agree with your first comment more! Well said.

Why should whites vote for someone who's pastor wants them all dead?
