Special Events Coordinator
Henry County has hired a Special Events Coordinator to work in the Parks and Recreation Department. The position was apparently advertised as legally required and 19 people applied. Of all the people who submitted an application, one stood out as most qualified and best suited for this taxpayer-funded job: Mr. Gerry Adams.
Yes, that Gerry Adams, the former Henry County Commissioner.
It is difficult to imagine the process involved at the county human resources department, or to know the qualifications of the other 18 people who were supposedly interviewed. But this hiring decision certainly does not rise above the appearance of cronyism and political influence.
Comments
I check the job postings regularly on the county website and do NOT recall that one.

I think I saw it on the TV channel but may be mistaken.

Stinky, when I inquired earlier today I was told it was on Channel 14. Also told it was 'closed' before some applications were submitted. Also told there was no way to prove 'influence' was involved.
I do know a solidly qualified candidate who was not considered because she applied too late.
It all sounds fishy.

Hello Mr. Stanley:
It is really fishy. The smell is like a four day dead catfish in July. Yes Mr. Adams was the District lV Commissioner and he was on the BOC when the "Nash Farm" was acquired. He also worked at the same time for the Clayton County Parks and Recreation Dept. Strange he worked for two counties at the same time. This man never impressed the people of his district and I'm sure the good ole boy system got him this job. For example: when the GDOT had a meeting in 2004 about road improvements in his district he could not coherently answer questions placed to him about the subject. He was very poorly prepared for the meeting that was attended by a very large crowd. If he tries to coordinate the way he handled himself that night this man cannot coordinate himself out of a wet bag. I'm perfectly sure that there are far more qualified people who applied for the job and were turned away. Remember
a few good words from his former commission partners would get this job for him.
It seems that the departments under the commission realm do as they are told without question or hesitation. Maybe there again there is a lack of professional judgement and decision making involved here.
