An Act of God
Tax Hike Mike stalled disaster relief legislation for a week because it referred to natural disasters as "acts of God":
The bill barred Arkansas insurance companies from denying coverage to victims of "acts of God," the legal term for natural disasters. It was introduced after a series of tornadoes ravaged the state in early March 1997, killing 25 and injuring more than 400.The Hucktard is probably (and hopefully) right when he says that by continuing his presence in the GOP race is killing his political career. People are starting to realize how much of a kook he really is.Huckabee refused to sign the bill, complaining that referring to catastrophic storms as "acts of God" was incompatible with his personal faith.
"While I realize that to some this is a minor issue, it is a matter of deep conscience with me to attribute in law a destructive and deadly force as being an 'act of God , '" he said at the time.
Rather than exercise his veto, the governor sent the bill back to the state legislature, suggesting that they change "acts of God" to "natural disasters." The Arkansas House of Representatives disagreed and voted 93-0 to pass the bill again with its original language.
[...]
Huckabee, an ordained Baptist minister, is often accused by critics of injecting an unhealthy dose of religion into his politics. He cites God frequently in his speeches and has said he would like to "amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards."

Yes, this is wrong of Gov. Huckabee. But I don't know if he should be ridiculed. This just reflects bad theology.
A tornado or flood or earthquake is not an act of God? Who else causes floods, earthquakes, and tornados? If these disasters are purely "natural," then God is impotent.
If Huckabee and others are going to wear their religion on their respective sleeves, they should not be wimps about it.

In some Islamic countries, you can't buy certain forms of insurance because whatever happens is "God's will."

This is why our enemies will lose. They timidly submit to God's will (Islam means "submission" to God). Jews and Christians believe that we are to "fill the earth and subdue it" (Israel means "he who wrestles with God").The Jewish rabbis said that not even a voice from heaven could intervene in disputes about the Law.
Huckabee and others need to learn that calling an event an "act of God" is not the same as calling that event "kosher."
