Richmond Braves moving to Gwinnett?

The Braves AAA affiliate could be moving to Gwinnett County:

The Braves will move their Class AAA minor-league team to Gwinnett County, according to two people familiar with the situation.

The Class AAA Richmond Braves, the organization's highest-level minor-league affiliate, could play in Gwinnett as soon as 2009. The Braves' three-year contract at the Richmond, Va. stadium, known as The Diamond, expires following the 2010 season. However, there is an option to pull out after each season. The Braves must give notice on or before Oct. 1 each year. The Braves have wanted much-need renovations at the stadium for years.

The people familiar with plans said the Braves would move the team to Gwinnett, in the suburbs north of Atlanta, but was uncertain where it would play.

This would be very cool. Minor league games are fun to watch.

Very cool indeed. I enjoy going up to Chattanooga and watching the Lookouts play. The games are good and you don't have to refinance your house for a family night out.

Isn't it unusual to have the AAA so close to the major? I hope they do it anyway AA and AAA are hard to beat.

Man, this will mean Georgia will have 3 baseball teams called the Braves. Two minor and one major. Well, good for us.

Gwinnett just does things well.

Free parking at the Gwinnett Arena. It's a clean, beautiful safe arena for hockey, concerts, etc.
You just don't see free parking at any sports venue.

I'm betting that Gwinnett does this about as well as it can be done. Looking forward to it.

Gwinnett is Great! Success lives here!
