Ramsey wins in Fayette

Matt Ramsey wins the special election in House District 72:

With all precincts reporting, Matt Ramsey has claimed victory in the race for the 72nd House district seat Tuesday night.

Ramsey took 1,925 votes, good for 53.35 percent of the vote, defeating second place finisher Steve Brown, who had 888 votes, or 24.61 percent. Kevin Madden finished in third with 571 votes (15.83 percent) and Heidi Becker Vaisvil had 221 votes (6.13 votes).

Because Ramsey got more than 50 percent of the vote, there will be no runoff as he won the seat outright. He will serve the remaining year on the unexpired term left vacant by the unexpected death last month of Rep. Dan Lakly.

Ramsey is an attorney with Warner, Hooper and Ramsey in Peachtree City.

Ramsey will replace the late Dan Lakly.
