Libertarian Bulldogs

Jace Walden makes an appearance at Dawg Sports:

Finally, Jace Walden recently posted a diary wondering whether Mark Richt might leave for Florida State. Jace stated "that Richt's contract has an opt-out clause for an undisclosed school," which was news to me and about which I would like to be provided with additional information.

Jace is a good guy and a smart fellow whose perspective I respect and appreciate. Because The Blogger Who Came In From the Cold entertains similar doubts, I am beginning to formulate a theory that libertarian Bulldog fans have a particular inclination to believe Mark Richt will leave Georgia for another job one day. (This actually makes a great deal of sense, when you think about it, since the conviction that a man will leave one job for another if given sufficient financial incentives is compatible with the faith in the free market which is the bedrock foundation of economic libertarianism.)

I have stated my contrary belief before, but it bears repeating at a time when the evidence for my side of the argument continues to mount. On the day Mark Richt coaches his final game with the Georgia Bulldogs, Vince Dooley will be the second-winningest coach in school history.

You can read the rest of the post here.

Kyle, the picture of Milton Friedman (one of my heroes) was a nice touch.

Jace, I have a name for that sports blog that we've been talking about doing for the last year...how 'bout, "Liberty Dawgs."

Jason,

I posted a reply to Kyle in the diary section:

I like "Liberty Dawgs" by the way...

A year or two ago Fox Sports reported that Richt had an opt-out clause in his contract and might take the job at the University of Miami, where he played college ball. The AJC then refuted that story by reviewing his contract, which is a PUBLIC RECORD since he is a state employee. The AJC reported that he has no such clause in his contract to opt out for any reason.

I don't know which of these stories are accurate and which one are not, but I thought it should be brought up since it seems relevant to this post.

It's absolutely relevant, Monroe. Thanks for the information.

Georgia Fans, myself included, would be furious if UGA didn't pony up to keep Richt in a situation like this.
