Stockbridge Candidates Running Scared?

[Posted by Request]

What Are Stockbridge Candidates Afraid of?

Last night, Senator Gail Davenport hosted a Stockbridge City Council candidate forum. All 5 candidates were invited to attend. Only 2 were in attendance: Althonso Thomas and Kathy Gilbert.

Incumbent Fred Evans and candidates Shirley Dabney and Melonie Mosley chose not to take the opportunity to face the voters present at the forum to address their concerns and questions. One can only wonder why?

I spoke with folks and observed early voting before and after this forum.

From all appearances the incumbent Evans, even some city staffers, do not want to deal with changes that are long overdue in Stockbridge.

Among 35 or so citizens who came to this forum there was overwhelming support for council districts.

Property rights was another hot topic.

Unfortunate that the Herald was notified, but had no reporters on hand. The story would virtually write itself!

Speaking of early voting .... at the Elections Office in McDonough I learned the numbers are pretty low for Stockbridge.

CV says early and absentee voting sets the probable trend for Election Day outcomes.

I pray for the City because of the willfully uninformed and those who just don't care. Let's all pray for the changes in representation that city needs.

Here's hoping the winds of change continue to blow and the face of the Stockbridge city council experiences dramatic and comprehensive change. The persistently unenlightened can be swept into the "light" and be made to "see". Prophets like Kathy Gilbert cannot ever be afraid to "shine".

Larry,

I know things are bad in Stockbridge but i hear they are worse in Mcdonough. Can you inform us on:

* What happened Monday at the Election Board metting with Mr. Monta Brown?
* Is it true that the lady at the tourism center resigned and under what circumstances?
* Is Gina Riffey resigning?
* Is Sandra Vincent offering a resolution to diminish the power of the Mayor? And is he thinking about resigning if that happens?
* Is Mr. B. Oliver allowed to have contracts with the builders/developers while fully employed by the city of McDonough?
* Who are the teachers that Ms. Notti hired for $40 an hour and billed the city?

We sure would like to know.

I would assume so. I don't live in McDonough and I don't know what contracts you are talking about, but Butch's employment status does not limit his right to conduct his business, whatever that may be. Again, I don't know what you are talking about, but it probably isn't illegal, just unethical.

Since I have gotten several e-mails about it...I'll have something on the tourism bureau issue later.

I know nothing about the rest of this, with the exception of the rumor about Gina Riffey and the Vincent/Mayor issue...but I am not prepared to post on them.

Carol,

First see Jason's post about the Tourism Director.

* What happened Monday at the Election Board metting with Mr. Monta Brown?

As predicted in my earlier post the allegations brought against Mr. Brown fell outside the authority of the Henry Elections Board. Ethical challenges must be filed through the State Ethics Commission.

* Is Gina Riffey resigning?

I know Gina and can state that should any such consideration cross her mind, it would result from personal - not political - reasons.

* Is Sandra Vincent offering a resolution to diminish the power of the Mayor? And is he thinking about resigning if that happens?

Yes. And, No. The council planned to discuss it today at it's 4:30pm meeting. The idea is not new, and cannot be attirbuted to Councilwoman Vincent - it appears every few years. The idea is to reduce the mayor's role and voting authority to a contributing opinion status.

Regarding Mr. Oliver, the idiots in McDonough cannot even spell conflict of interest or have a clue about public trust. There are no such prohibitions in his employment agreement.

I have no idea what Councilwoman Notti is wasting money on this time.

Is Sandra Vincent offering a resolution to diminish the power of the Mayor? And is he thinking about resigning if that happens?

A city council cannot change its city charter. Only the state legislature has the power to alter or abolish a city charter.

I mean, they can try...but it'll get thrown out immediately.
