Vernon Jones files with the FEC

Vernon Jones (D) has filed paperwork for 2008 to challenge Saxby Chambliss:

Although DeKalb County CEO Vernon Jones quietly filed his paperwork to run for U.S. Senate this week, he was more direct Thursday when he walked into Saxby Chambliss' Washington office and told the incumbent Republican senator that he has competition.

Jones, a former Democratic state representative now in his second term as DeKalb CEO, has been reluctant to publicly declare his candidacy. But on Monday, without fanfare, he notified the Federal Elections Commission that he is entering the 2008 Senate race as a Democrat.

Ann Kimbrough, chief of staff to Jones, said her boss visited with Chambliss, Georgia's senior senator, as well as Rep. Hank Johnson, a Democrat who represents most of DeKalb, to inform them of his candidacy. Jones himself could not be reached for comment.

Chambliss' office confirmed that the two men met Thursday afternoon to talk about transportation issues. But there was no immediate comment on what Jones said about the campaign.

Vernon Jones has no chance in this race. I still believe that Jim Marshall is the only shot they have at beating Chambliss and even then it'll be an uphill battle.

I love Jones! He has a shot! Jim is to smart to jump into that race

Wishful thinking. Jones has NO chance. Marshall would be wise to stay in his district and run for congress again. I think the best shot for the Dems lies with Cathy Cox, if she can manage a functional campaign this time.

You all don't know Jack!! It will be Michelle Nunn. Her name recognition and the collection of Political IOU's is unbelievable. Two of the biggest and most respected Democrats in Henry(and it ain't E.Jones and Kenyaddayaddayadda) are already working behind the scenes on her behalf.

This is a joke right? What is he promising, to do for Georgia what he has done for Dekalb?

Joshua,
I have nunn of that from you. I didn't say the "Henry County Dem Party." I said "two of the biggest and most respected Democrats in Henry." You already failed the "name-game" once, so take the bottle out of your Hampton weened mouth and get with it!

Michelle Nunn brings two things to the table.

The first is that she is the daughter of a very well respected (by both Democrats and Republicans) former United States Senator (Sam Nunn), who was strong on defense.

The second is that she is from South Georgia and will you her roots to woo those voters, but a disadvantage is that she grew up in Washington.

However, questions remain...does she support the Second Amendment in respect to the right of individuals to keep arms? Will she work to keep taxes low? Those are the types questions those voters will ask.

But she was considering a run in 2004 and backed out, is she in it this time for sure?
