SB 37 clears committee, Johnson continues jihad
Senate Bill 37 has cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee by a 4 to 3 vote:
The Senate Judiciary Committee quickly passed a controversial bill Thursday intended to reopen cases of people convicted of engaging in consensual sex acts when they were teens.Johnson is a nice guy. I respect him, but he has it out for this kid and it's nothing more than a political front so that he can keep the appearance of being tough on crime.Senate Bill 37, sponsored by Sen. Emanuel Jones, D-Decatur, addresses offenders found guilty of sodomy, child molestation, aggravated child molestation and enticing a child for indecent purposes if both people who were involved were teens at the time and were convicted before July of last year.
With Jones' bill clearing the committee on a 4-3 vote, Republicans who have spoken out against the legislation can continue to tweak it.

"Once you clear committee, it's open season," Jones said about the advancement. "There's some concerns, primarily about letting bad people out. We don't want to do that."
Jones said the Senate can make changes and amend the bill on the floor - that is, assuming the Senate Rules Committee will clear it for a full chamber debate.
"I look forward to the debate about whether we should release convicted sex predators out on the streets," said Senate President Eric Johnson, R-Savannah, who has been the most vocal and visible opponent to the proposal.
Senator Johnson, he was acquitted of the rape charge. The jury reviewed the video as many as ten times and still acquitted him. He has spent enough time in jail. The legislature needs to pass SB 37.
