Murtha wants the draft

Congressman John Murtha (D-F'n crazy) wants to bring back the military draft. Sadly, I only wish I was joking. He told CNN's Wolf Blitzer that "everybody ought to be obligated to serve."

I wrote about the Democrats lust for "universal" policies late last summer...the theme, or course, is the "common good."

Here is part of their plan in their own words:

We need a real Patriot Act that brings out the patriot in all of us by establishing for the first time an ethic of universal citizen service. All Americans between the ages of 18 and 25 should be asked to serve their country by going through three months of basic civil defense training and community service. This is not a draft, nor is it military. Young people will be trained not as soldiers, but simply as citizens who understand their responsibilities in the event of a natural disaster, an epidemic or a terrorist attack. Universal citizen service will bring Americans of every background together to make America safer and more united in common purpose.
Universal Citizen Service. It's very...fascist sounding, isn't it? If it isn't a draft, then what the hell is it? Summer camp? Vacation Bible School?

If it isn't a draft, then what the hell is it?

Slavery.

Might as well call it what it is.

Rhetoric! Plain & simple.

The 'Draft Threat' is used to scare/intimidate voters. Charlie Rangel pulled the same thing when we first went into Iraq. Now, with the Iraq issue still out there and possibly an Iranian crisis ahead, the Democrats are starting the Draft threat again to sway opinion.
I noticed FoxNews has a slogan during their commercial breaks that state, "America Has Problems...America Is Not The Problem." Clearly, Murtha and his ilk beg to differ.

Murtha is a political slut. He actively hides behind his brief Marine Corps service while working for defeat in Iraq. He has said, without any legal basis, that Marines are guilty of "cold blooded murder" in several cases that he knows NOTHING about. His time in the Marine Corps and his defeatist proposals has earned him the undying respect of the national media who now classifies him as a "war hero." He makes me sick at my stomach.

Well tell us John Douglas, what do you really think? I happen to agree with you. Murtha's motto could well be "Semper Flee." He wants us to be defeated in Iraq for his own political ends. Anyone think this guy wants the surge to work? Nothing about him is always faithful. Think about it, he almost became the Majority Leader by selling out the troops and encouraging our enemies. If the Republicans had a lick of sense, they would recruit dozens of returning "mad as hell" Iraqi war vets to run against Dems across the country. And frankly, the Republican Conference in the House could use a few more veterans as well.

ACTIVELY-serving soldiers who are "mad as hell" about people questioning our direction in Iraq are statistically getting harder and harder to come by. The people most gung-ho for our current policy are those who have never seen combat at all.

You are correct though in that the Republican Caucus could use some more young veterans in its ranks. Much would probably be different if they were better represented.

"Murtha is a political slut."

While we share the same sympathy, comments such as those are unbecoming of my state senator. You should be embarrassed.

Danny, all joking aside, anyone who calls our military "cold blooded murderers" for political gain, for media tiime, and tries to ride it to becoming Majority Leader is a Political Slut. Actually, I would use much stronger language in private conversation. Remind me to tell you what I really think of Murtha if we ever meet away from the computer.

Haha, John Douglas called someone a slut. First the battle with the NRA, now this; I like you more and more all the time.

I don't disagree that "anyone who calls our military "cold blooded murderers" for political gain, for media tiime, and tries to ride it to becoming Majority Leader is a Political Slut."

But the fact is that you're an elected official with a constituency that you represent. Publicly calling names like that is uncalled for. Privately is a different story.

If you had some real nerve, you'd call someone like Vincent Fort a "Political Slut." Someone who'll have an opportunity to actually confront you about it.

Fort postures in front of the camera & gets quoted at every chance to talk about the discrimination of blacks.

It's the same thing. Both mentioned officials have an agenda & use the media as a way to pursue it.

Just call someone a slut who's actually got the chance to confront you about it.

You do that & I'd consider you ballsy.

Vincent Fort is not in a position to damage this country like Murtha. Vincent Fort is virtually ignored in the capitol because his positions are so radical. Murtha on the other hand is not ignored in Washington but hailed by his fellow surrender types as a "war hero" and former Marine who is to be listened to on matters of foreign affairs.

The bottom line is Fort is no threat to America, Murtha is. Thats why I target Murtha and will continue to do so at every opportunity.

You are my state senator. I, as a voter, have marked an "X" next to your name FIVE TIMES.

You depend on people like me to put you into a position of power. I don't want to be represented by someone who has to use vile phrases to get their point across.

We share a valid criticism of Murtha's stance about the draft/war. However, voicing your criticisms by acting like you've been "Hannitized" is getting tougher to swallow.

Don't try to change the subject about names. This is not a discussion about Vincent Fort or John Murtha.

It is a discussion about John Douglas & his immature comments.

On a side note:
Don't criticize Murtha for "his brief Marine Corps service," because it spanned 37 years. I still don't like him but I thought I should point out the facts.
