A fiscal disaster...
The fiscal wreck that is the presidency of George W. Bush:
February 28, 2001: “In his first address to Congress, Bush likened his $ 1.9 trillion budget to a family budget...”February 5, 2002: “President Bush yesterday proposed a $ 2.13 trillion budget for next year...”
February 4, 2003: “President Bush announced a $ 2.23 trillion budget for fiscal 2004 yesterday...”
February 3, 2004: “President Bush sent Congress a $2.4 trillion spending plan yesterday...”
February 13, 2005: “President Bush sent Congress a $2.57 trillion budget...”
February 5, 2006: “President Bush plans to propose a $2.7 trillion budget tomorrow...”
Today: “President Bush took aim yesterday at domestic spending as part of a plan to balance the budget in five years without raising taxes while increasing funding for the Iraq war and permanently expanding the military. With the $2.9 trillion budget he submitted to Congress...”
If you're keeping score at home, $1.9 trillion to $2.9 trillion is an increase of more than 52 percent.

Congratulations to the Republican Party!
You've now become the party of big government and bigger lies!
My congratulations also goes out to the Democratic Party, who now becomes the major party of small government by default!
Feel proud Republicans, feel proud.

Congratulations America...you now have to choose between Socialists and Socialists...until you're ready to look outside the two-party system.

So....in your opinion, how much should we be spending? It's easy to look at those numbers and say what a 'fiscal wreck' but, what amount would you propose?
One has to ask, "What major impact does this have on me in a small town in Henry County?"
If you truly believe in self-determination, the increase in the Federal budget will not have any effect on you or your daily life. As a nation, we will survive and the pendulum will swing. Don't fall into the 'sky is falling' trap without doing the due diligence.
Congratulations America...you now have to choose between Socialists and Socialists...until you're ready to look outside the two-party system.
You have to be kidding, right? Geez...talk about hyperbole. I don't consider myself hard-core with either party but to say something like that is preposterous. Do you seriously believe we are inching towards communism?

Personally, I'd scrap anything that wasn't Constitutionally mandated, which would cut a tremendous amount.
If you truly believe in self-determination, the increase in the Federal budget will not have any effect on you or your daily life.
We are headed to an economic disaster. We cannot continue the borrow and spend path. The budget has to be balanced. If it doesn't happen then your taxes will start increasing and that will have an impact on you, me and everyone else.
Do you seriously believe we are inching towards communism?
Communism? No. Socialism ? Yes, but really, one form of collectivism is just as bad as another.

Actually, I wouldn't say we're inching toward Socialism...plunging is more like it. If you'd like a number, $1 trillion would be a good starting point and we could work our way down from there.

I agree that a 'borrow & spend' policy is not a good idea (too bad most Americans don't practice it for themselves) but, to declare that we are headed for 'economic disaster' based on a 52% increase is a bit melodramatic. IF we were faced with an economic depression and civil unrest maybe it would be a justified term to use.
I realize you were venting but it really struck me, as I read the lead-in, that you seemed to favor a 'bumper sticker' expression rather than a true assessment.
Communism? No. Socialism ? Yes, but really, one form of collectivism is just as bad as another.
I enjoy reading this blog for the alternative views and its 'local slant' but, this statement is consistent with your lead-in, its a quick 'slogan' response. There is no attempt by our government to take over industry or its means of production. Rules and regulations are not the same thing.
As far as 'collectivism' goes, if you go to church or are a member of a political party, you are part of a collective.

Joe,
Are you forgetting the over $8 trillion national debt.
For fiscal conservatives this administration has been a let down and down the road we are facing a huge tax increases unless there is a "fiscal revival" of some sort.
There is no attempt by our government to take over industry or its means of production.
What about the efforts to establish universal healthcare? What about proposals on windfall profits from oil companies, suggestions of nationalization are not far off.
if you go to church or are a member of a political party, you are part of a collective.
There is a difference in joining an organization like a church or a political party over having your individuality stripped away from you forcefully.
