Who gets a vote?

Keep your eye on the number of voters in the House of Representatives. The new leadership, known as Democrats, is going to vote today on increasing voter rights in the House. It is part of their effort to rewrite parts of the Constitution, specifically Article I which states “the House of Representatives shall be composed of members chosen every second year by the people of the several states.”

District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam and the Virgin Islands are not states, yet the Democrats would like for these territories to have state rights and vote on legislation. Why you ask? Four of the Five are ……. drum roll…….. democrats….bating.

Hold on, this isn’t a new trick they pulled out of Felix’s bag; this was the case in 1993-1994 when they had the majority but was soon killed in 1995 when the Republicans captured Congress. These territories send delegates to Congress where they are put on committees and allowed to vote in committee but never have the right to take part in final votes on legislation.

So how did the Democrats get away with such, floor votes taken as a committee of the whole. The saving grace is that if the margin of vote is less than 5 the delegates do not get to vote and the committee of the whole must adjourn.

I guess the Democrats are foreshadowing the possibility of letting illegal aliens and aliens have voting rights. Give enough people what they want and one can stay empowered forever.

One note of point, the citizens of D.C. do derserve a full representative, because they pay taxes to the federal government. It is complete crap that they are taxed without a full voting rep. (hence why they put "taxation without representation" on their license plates".)

Puerto Rico does not pay federal taxes, and I'm not sure about the other territories.
