Election Night Open Thread

Alright, my friends and loyal readers. Polls close in about an hour and a half, unless you live in parts of Gwinnett County and Fulton County.

I'll be posting results as I get them. As I have said before, I'm only focusing on certain races, but I'll try to keep things as up to date as possible.

I'm heading out to the location I'll be blogging from for tonight in just a few minutes. Have fun where you are going to be, whether it's at a victory party or at home.

[6:15pm] I have arrived at the Henry County Administration Building with my laptop and McDonald's in hand. The new Southern Chicken sandwich sucks. It's a cheap ripoff of Chick-fil-a.

[6:28pm] I'd like to have voted in Forsyth County.

[7:00pm] Henry County and most other Georgia polls have now closed.

[7:02pm] Chris Farris has called me with an update from the Cagle event. All four major local news stations are already at the Gwinnett Arena.

[7:33pm] The Secretary of State has started to post some election results.

[8:12pm] Cagle is leading Reed by 11% with four percent of the precincts reporting.
Cox is leading Taylor by just under 1%.

[8:18pm] Martin leads Hecht by just under 9%.

[8:23pm] Mark Taylor has pulled out in front of Cathy Cox by 2%.

[8:27pm] Karen Handel is leading Bill Stephens by 4% with nine percent of the precincts reporting.

[8:32pm] Danny Carter is trailing Kathy Cox by 27%. Which is a bit of a surprise.

[8:36pm] Next update will be when 20% of the precincts report in.

[9:00pm] Perdue is up on McBerry by more than is worth reporting.
Taylor leads Cox by under 4%.
Martin leads Hecht just under 6%.
Handel stills leads Stephens, but all four candidates are now pulling double digits.

[9:13pm] WSB has called the Republican Gubernatorial race for Sonny Perdue. Are there any surprises there?

[9:20pm] For those of you in Henry County looking for election result, please visit here.

[9:26pm] Cagle is still holding strong against Reed with an 11% lead.
Hecht is closing in on Martin, trailing by just 2%.

[9:34pm] Gary Black is leading in the Ag race 43%. Kemp is second with just under 27%.

[9:38pm] Clayton from Peach Pundit says that they are calling the GOP Lt. Governor's race for Cagle.

[9:46pm] Here is the link on the Cagle/Reed race at Peach Pundit.

[9:48pm] Taylor is over 51% with Cox at 44%.

[9:50pm] Handel now leads with 41%. Stephens is lagging behind with 33%.

[10:00pm] According to 11Alive, Ralph Reed has conceed to Casey Cagle.

[10:01pm] For those of you e-mailing me about Henry County races, please visit here.

[10:11pm] Phillip, there is no coverage because of the speed that the results are coming in. It's very slow.

[10:19pm] We are calling 5th Henry County Commission district there will be a runoff between Johnny Basler and Lee Holman, the incumbent. One precinct remains.

[10:23pm] Hank Johnson has taken a 7% lead over Cynthia McKinney.

[10:25pm] Brent Brown beats Chuck Scheid by a significant margin.

[10:38pm] In the Democratic SOS race, it's looking like it's going to be Buckner and Hicks in a runoff.

[10:46pm] Nadine Thomas leads Emanuel Jones by a little over 1% with on eleven precincts reporting.

[10:47pm] There will be a runoff in the 4th Henry County Commission District between Reid Bowman and Gerry Adams, the incumbent. Phil Crosby is endorsing Reid Bowman in the runoff.

[10:51pm] David, you have to click on the "summary" link on the left side. Here is the direct link.

[10:53pm] Emanuel Jones has pulled ahead of Nadine Thomas by almost 9%. Death, I'm getting my results from the SOS website.

[10:56pm] I'm heading home to finish out the night.

[11:18pm] I'm back home. The big story right now is the McKinney race. And...yes, Cindy Sheehan is at a rally for McKinney.

[11:22pm] Erick is blogging about Cindy Sheehan over at Red State.

[11:24pm] A very late welcome to National Journal readers.

[11:29pm] Cagle has absolutely embarrassed Ralph Reed. With 81% precincts reporting, he holds a 56.2% to 43.8% edge.

[11:37pm] I'm calling the 10th State Senate race for Emanuel Jones. I probably should have done this 30 minutes ago.
**With 87% of precincts in, Jones has 56% to Thomas's 41% -- Emanuel is the winner** Jones won by 2-to-1 margin in Henry, but only won by 20% margin in DeKallb.**

[11:38pm] Mike Crotts looks like he was able to get 19% of the vote though they won't be counted, as he was thrown out of the 17th State Senate district GOP primary.

[11:46pm] I'm heading to bed. McKinney and Johnson will meet in a runoff. I don't see her getting defeated, but you never know. Larry, I'm leaving the ballot questions to you.

[12:00am] Larry here. The local ballot questions turned out thousands, yes thousands of Yes votes to both questions. Only a few hundred voted No to either. People want a sales tax to replace property taxes to support schools. People want a vote before the county can commit to spending tax dollars for rapid transit. I will have a separate post covering this issue.

Comments

And ...Henry County only... you can watch live coverage provided by Henry Commissioner BJ Mathis on SBN-TV (Charter Cable) channel 22.

I am off to the county admin bldg, where the votes will be displayed and all the hopefuls will gather.

The new Southern Chicken sandwich sucks. It's a cheap ripoff of Chick-fil-a.

Are you really surprised by that? C'mon - I hope your election prognostications are better than your culinary choices.

I'm here with Chris and am also liveblogging on livejournal (rjhatl.livejournal.com). Casey will be speaking at 8:45.

JASON,

Look at the WSBTV stats for Cagle v. Reed:

Casey Cagle: 51,654 75%
Ralph Reed: 17,047 25%

LOL,

WSBTV is the first station to declare a winner in a statewide race.

They have picked Sonny Perdue over Ray McBerry. Sonny (according to WSB) managed to pick up a modest 88% of the vote.

Karen Handel / Bill Stephens is getting to be a good race 39.5% / 34.3% with 27% of precincts reporting.

Good stuff Jason. We're calling it for Cagle at PP

WSB does not even have State School Superintendent
Republican

It's been called at PP. Top of the page.

SENATOR DOUGLAS!

If you're reading this blog tonight, I have a bone to pick with you.

With 43% of precincts reporting you have managed to pick up ONLY 97.2% of the vote.

That's the lowest winning percentage of ANY unopposed Republican State Senator!

Pick it up sir. Pick it up. ;)

I think all of the Crotts family voted for Mike

what about the henry county races

Reed has conceeded... GEEZ.. I turn my back for a few minutes and the landscape changes significantly

Jason no coverage on charter channel 22.

Reed has refused to talk to the TV - short concession speech... Is this the end of REED as a politician?

Jones is winning Senate District 10 with 25%+ of the votes... according to WSB

Braves winning HUGE - again - 13-5 top of 8th

Cynthia McKinney is still claiming that her votes went to Hank Johnson and that the security guard in the parking lot should have recognized her so she was jusstified in hitting him.

So the Flippen prec. holds the key for the 4th Dist race. What happens if Bowman and Crosby end up tied?

Maybe McKinney is going down again? Interesting...

Jason the link you provided to the election results from the county web site is not updated since alomst 9pm and its almost 11pm. Whos winning the county commissioner races?

Where are you seeing the Jones/Thomas numbers -- WSB has Jones up huge (10%)

Good turnout at the Libertarian primary party at Dave & Busters in Marietta. Buckley, Hayes, Cherry, and Flanagan were there (hope I'm not missing any candidates I didn't meet). Allen was a little disappointed to see Ralph Reed sent packing, but he was in the minority! All in all a good, well organized event and great time to be had meeting people.

BJ is back on but on Channel 17

So the Flippen prec. holds the key for the 4th Dist race. What happens if Bowman and Crosby end up tied?

Yes, Eagles Landing (Bowman's ome turf) provided the 17 vote spread that put Bowman ahead of Crosby. Almost immediately, Crosby voiced his support and endorsement for Reid Bowman. They talked as gentlemen... a good sight to behold!

i say go MR Bowman and MR Bazler. We need good business men to try and straiten this county out
