Who’s running for the LP presidential nomination?

A friend that occasionally dabbles in Libertarian Party politics asked me earlier today who was running for the presidential nomination. Honestly, I hadn’t been paying much attention due to the overwhelming amount of work I’ve been doing lately and the fact that national party politics tends to do little more than piss me off (there is a reason I had a bottle of Jack Daniels under my table at last year’s convention in St. Louis).

Here is the list of candidates as of now:

Duensing seems like a nice guy, based on my limited interaction with him a few years back. I’m constantly told I need to check out Harris, close friends seem to think I’d like him. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Wrights, although we disagree at times.

Absent from the list is Wayne Root. Based on what I’ve heard and read, he isn’t running. And it does look like he is building up his name as a political commentator so he can run for some sort of elected office a few years down.

On the other hand, the 2012 convention will be held in Las Vegas – Root’s backyard. That may give him an advantage if he were to decide to run. To be clear, I have no intention of ever supporting him to be the party’s presidential nominee (especially after he tried to strongarm me into to voting for him for chair last year).

I plan on going to the convention next year as a delegate from Georgia, but I don’t know who I’ll wind up supporting; if anyone.
