Tomorrow (June 25) at 12 noon on the Square in McDonough, Henry County citizens will rally to express their concern about and opposition to the impending purchase of Tara Field by Henry County.
The Henry County Board of Commissioners has apparently confined its discussions regarding this purchase to executive sessions closed to the public.
While the details of the proposed sale have not been released, rumor has it that the price is in the neighborhood of $10 million. This acquistion comes in a time of layoffs and reduction in county services.
There is NO WAY that the acquisition can be completed without either RAISING taxes or further REDUCING County services. Why should the citizens of Henry County be concerned about bailing out Clayton County? Why should Clayton County use OUR money to fund services and pay employees of Clayton County?
To me, it makes no sense for Henry County to make this deal. The Board of Commissioner should not be running an airport. If Tara Field is a viable economic opportunity then there would be private individuals who would be willing to purchase it. If $10 million dollars was a reasonable price then someone would have bought it.
Do YOU want to pay more taxes to buy an airport?

No, I most certainly do not want to pay more in taxes to buy an airport. I thought the Nash Farm purchase/seizure was the dumbest thing Henry County government has ever done (and that’s saying a lot). They might outdo themselves with Tara Field.
I agree Donnie we don’t need to be going down this road. Laying off employees and then turn around and buy an airport. That sounds just about right.
