Hugo Chavez in nationalizing the Venezuela oil and telecommunications industries is stealing form me and every investor that owns stock in companies like Exxon, Chevron and Verizon. But is Chavez the only socialist out to steal from shareholders of energy companies?
“Take those profits and put them into an alternative energy fund that will begin to find alternative smart energy, alternatives that will actually begin to move us toward the direction of independence.”
What profits need to be confiscated? Exxon Mobile made $39,500,000,000.00 in 2006. Exxon Mobile is a company owned by shareholders and responsible to them.
Why does Socialist Hugo Chavez demand that profits be taken from a public corporation and used to fund alternative energy sources when he sits a top of oil deposits?
Actually he didn’t say the above quote, no it was Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton. Socialism is in this woman’s blood. Remember when she was co-president and she wanted to socialize the medical industry, which accounts for about 15% of the nation’s economy? She wants to go further this time and nationalize, like Chavez, the nation’s energy industry.

Great Post.
I wonder with all this talk about alternate energy sources going on in Georgia and around the US, when will folks understand the free market process works best.
In Georgia there are plans for a number of biofuel plants that are receiving tax breaks if they use only Georgia grown products. Not sure GA grows enough corn to make a dent in the so-called demand. I know that other crops can be used to make biofuels but one thing all these different processes need is water.
As far as I know, Georgia is still in a water disagreement with FL and AL. Where is all the water going to come from to make all this biofuel?
10 years ago nobody would have thought about driving a hybrid car. Now even GMC and Ford are producing these vehicles. As demand for alternate fuels and means of getting from point A to point B, the market will work.
Free markets…still the only way to go.
But strictly from a stock earning point of view, it does make smart financial sense for Exxon, Chevron, etc. to diversify and become not just oil companies, but energy companies. Someone’s going to make money one day from ethanol or solar or other energy sources.
If not, it’s a tax write-off.
It kinda does make sense for oil companies to have stakes in small companies exploring other energy sources. If one of them hits it big, then you’re foot’s already in the door.
Again, if not, it’s a tax write-off.
It’s just hedging your bets…
If it is free will of the company to do such and not at the threat of Hillary stealing money from them then I agree.
These compaines have to be looking at alternatives, they can not be that short sited. However, the company must make money and not be subsidized by the government. Look at rail. It does not work very well in the public markets at this time, therefore we do not have it in Atlanta. If it is needed then don’t you think those that already have the tracks laid would have thought about it? Rail where tax payers are paying for others to ride is socialism.
The post though is not on should or should not a giant comapny like Exxon Mobile invest money in the alternative fuel markets, it is about Hillary stealing money at gun point for the agenda she supports, socialism.
Hillary is a socialist and will continue to come up with ideas to benefit all mankind at the expense of others.
That is what this post is about.
But strictly from a stock earning point of view, it does make smart financial sense for Exxon, Chevron, etc. to diversify and become not just oil companies, but energy companies.
Strictly from an earnings point of view, I would say they are doing just fine the way they are.
ngreenbaum you need to look at SB 6 in the US Senate. The Dems want to bring back the Windfall Profit Tax by implementing a 50% excise tax on profits above $40 barrel. 50%! By taxing these profits it will drive up the cost of fuel higher than it already is.
The Democrats want to put all of these restrictions and regulations on US Corporations putting them at a competitive disadvantage in the global market and it will actaully increase our dependency on Foriegn Oil. In addition the bills stated intention is to reduce energy cost but will drastically do the opposite. I do not believe corporations pay taxes, everday citizens like you and me pay taxes. Therefore any taxes placed on a corporation will immediately be reflected in the pricing of their product which WE pay for!
Oh, nice post!!!
While driving on campus the other day, I saw a vehicle with a homemade sign in the back window.
“DOWN with Pat Buchanan! DOWN with President Bush!
UP with Venezuelan oil, BUY CITGO”
I was dumbfounded.
Captain,
I have faxed correspondence to both our Georgia Senators in Washington in opposition to the very bill in which you address urging them to vote against the measure.
I appreciate your efforts to keep America strong.
Chevron and BP/Amoco have made investments in alternatives and their CEO’s have said exactly what you said, that they are energy companies not oil companies. Profit is not their only motivation, their grandchildren are another one. You can never underestimate the good in people.
The Dems want to bring back the Windfall Profit Tax by implementing a 50% excise tax on profits above $40 barrel.
As Hillary said, “take those profits…”
The point is nationalization of America’s energy companies. Just like Hugo.
Appears to me the problem is that socialists in America have taken control of Congress. Can we really say we did not see it coming? Anything goes. Entitlement mentality. Vote yourself a share of the treasury. In the world we have allowed, even the President refuses to protect our borders. The concepts of capitalism, investment, national pride, even patriotism are lost. Karl would be proud.
A little revolution is a good thing. The time has come.
Chill out Larry Stanley. They’ve had the House and Senate for a few weeks. You got an itchy trigger finger…
I am fearful for this country. Henry County is not even safe. Every time we look around there is a city councilperson wanting to spend $45 million to duplicate Callaway Gardens (a private foundation), or a comissioner who wants a civic center (think Galleria or Gwinnett). All in the name of culture and community. All at taxpayer expense.
I am in favor of preservation, greenspace, historical & cultural venues. I am also in favor of private enterprise seeing an opportunity and making investments. I recall Mouth of the South Ted Turner commenting about the plight of vanishing buffalo: create a market and there will be no vanishing buffalo.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his need. Great. But who determines need and who gets control of “free” markets?
I don’t know why yall are so giddy over shareholder rewards from oil companies. So they made $39 billion in profits. They only paid $11million of that in dividends to shareholders, far less than any amount proposed to be scraped off the top in the form of taxes. Like shareholders would even feel it. Say’ what are the oil companies doing with the rest of the profit.. if they answer to shareholders only, then shareholders should know how few peanuts they got out of that monstrous profit. Where’s the rest of it going, or do shareholders not care?
Personally, I don’t think it’s any of our business to know what they are doing with their profits.
The total return has been great. 3.6% dividend on a stock that has almost doubled since I purchased it isn’t anything to sneeze at over the last 4 years. You make me nearly 30% a year and I’ll B&G if Hillary tries to steal from you.
But once again you are throwing out distraction away from the intended post – It does not belong to Hillary to seize for the betterment of womankind. Why should the socialist elitist woman be able to steal from a corporation? Is it because the owners have done well in making money? They should pay taxes equal to like all other entities and on the same playing field? But a windfall tax? Pilfering because she is woman hear her roar and it helps the little guy is wrong.
A millionaire lookin’ for another million dollars
A poor man lookin’ for one
A chainstore owner lookin’ for another store
A hungry man lookin’ for a hamburger bone
A rock star lookin’ for another million seller
A Bitch lookin’ for a vote
That was classic.
